Mayor and Town Council
The Town Council is the governing body of the Town. It is responsible for
formulating policies, raising and spending funds necessary to provide services
and programs for the Town, enacting ordinances to establish Town laws and
policies and employing the Town staff. The Mayor conducts the meetings of the
Town Council and is recognized as the Town's chief elected official. The Council
appoints a Town Manager who is responsible to the Council to administer the
day-to-day operations of the Town. Town Councilors are elected by qualified Town
voters for a two year term beginning July 1 of every even numbered year. In
addition to five councilors, the Mayor is directly elected on the same cycle.
The Town Council meets in regular session on the second Wednesday of every month
at 7:00 PM in the Town Hall. Special meetings are scheduled as they are needed.
Emergency meetings can be called by the Mayor or at the request of two members
of the Town Council. Agendas are developed the week before the Town Council
meeting and are available in the Town Hall.
Minutes are kept by the Clerk of the Council and are posted on the Town's web
page as soon as they are published.
The Town Council operates under the authority of the Town Charter.
